Of the 22 nameplates sold by Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti this year, 15 have recorded declining year-over-year sales. The Infiniti JX, of course, wasn't on sale at this time last year and thus has no previous year data with which 2012's 2619-unit four-month total can be compared. Lexus vs. Acura vs. Infiniti isn't a battle mentioned that often, mainly because Mercedes-Benz and BMW are far more formidable foes for the Lexus brand. Nevertheless, 26 years after Honda established Acura, the success of these three brands in comparison with one another is routinely similar. Lexus easily beats Acura. Acura easily beats Infiniti. Getting back to the style aspect, as one reader did point out, they may seem a bit too refined, especially if purchased brand new right off the showroom floor. However, I think if one was to buy one that was about 15-20 years old that has had some of the shine taken off of it with wear and tear, it could look a bit more understated and masculine. Anyways, thanks to everyone who voted and left comments. I don't think that this competition would have been complete without at least mentioning the ICON. While I didn't include it in the original vote because it is technically a Land Cruiser, the ICON is essentially an old Land Cruiser built from the ground up with brand new technology and parts right here in the US. 100,000 (and up, depending on specifics), but they are available in three models (above) and in two body styles ("Old School" and "New School;" I'll leave it up to you to decide which is better).
鈥淚t will eventually be four or five thousand people. The Gulf kingdom鈥檚 industry minister Tawfig Fawzan Alrabiah this week claimed the Midland car giant was exploring plans for a plant manufacturing both Jaguar and Land Rover cars. The Post reported in 2012 that JLR had signed a letter of intent with authorities in Saudi Arabia which would see the two parties work on a detailed feasibility study to determine the viability of setting up an automotive facility. The company said talks were at a preliminary stage at the time, although opportunities had already been identified in aluminium component production. However, JLR declined to comment further when approached by the Post. A spokesperson said: 鈥淲e can confirm that a detailed feasibility study is under way to consider Saudi Arabia as a possible future location for a Jaguar Land Rover automotive facility. Industry expert David Bailey said investment in Saudi Arabia was doubly rise for JLR - as not only is the Middle East a key export market, it is also crucial for supplies of raw materials. Prof Bailey, who is professor of industrial strategy at the Aston Business School, said: 鈥淭his would certainly be feasible, not only because of exports but also access to aluminium. 鈥淭hey have gone for an all-aluminium strategy very clearly and Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest aluminium smelters in the world. 鈥淚t gives them access to a lot of aluminium, and a lot of expertise about it. Prof Bailey said that while reports of investment overseas often leads to fears over jobs in the West Midlands, JLR鈥檚 growth was sufficient that this does not pose a threat here. He said: 鈥淵ou could understand why with expansion in China, Brazil and possibly Saudi Arabia, unions are concerned about the UK. 鈥淭hey are right to ask questions, but this is about the global expansion of the company, which will be in the UK and overseas.
