What Do You Choose?

What Do You Choose?

JustDrive will allegedly deliver on the long-promised idea of natural communication between driver and car. Toyota and Land Rover took home the top brand honors in ALG's 2015 Residual Value Awards, which will be presented this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails. The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro.

Alexander often takes his Defender off the grid in nearby Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming. He considered adding locking axles to enhance its off-road performance but found that they simply weren鈥檛 necessary. The basic solid axles are more than capable and easy to maintain. He isn鈥檛 sure that 2020 Defender owners will be able to say the same of their vehicles. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to see what the new Defender looks like,鈥?Alexander said. There is a vocal group of Defender purists who oppose the new direction. And some recognize that times have changed. Jaguar Land Rover is pinning its hopes on the 2020 Land Rover Defender to give its finances a boost by appealing to a wide audience. 3.8 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018. The automaker is relying on the 2020 Defender to appeal to a wider range of customers than just off-road warriors to boost sales. Migrating the Defender to a global unibody platform will reduce costs. So will a more streamlined production line rather than the hand-built process used for the old models. Along with the independent suspension, they are changes of necessity that shouldn鈥檛 bother Defender purists, Geurin said. 鈥淵es, it鈥檚 not going to be like it was,鈥?he said. Geurin owns a Defender 110, one of the rare original North American models produced from 1993 to 1997. He has also owned the two-door Defender 90 and the Series II and Series III predecessors. He describes himself as a dedicated fan of Land Rover. Geurin said he is trusting the automaker to do its best with the new Defender. 鈥淚f they have a decent-looking design and can prove reliability maybe they鈥檒l take some of Toyota鈥檚 market,鈥?Geurin said.

1,000 less than the outgoing model. Out goes the previous V8 petrol engine for a new base 3.5 litre Ti-VCT V6 engine that produces 290bhp (294PS) and 345Nm (255lb-ft) of torque. This means the 2011 Explorer is 20% more fuel efficient. Optional is the all-new 2.0 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, producing 237bhp (240PS) and 339Nm (250lb-ft) of torque from 1,700 rpm. Front wheel drive is standard on all models, but only the AWD is available on the 3.5 litre Ti-VCT engine. Both engines are linked to a 6 speed automatic transmission. Expected is a 355bhp, 3.5 litre turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine that will be added to the range in the future. The AWD features a Land Rover-esque Terrain Response. This terrain management system has four settings (normal, mud, sand and snow) and is controlled via a console-mounted knob. This also features hill-descent control. Bi-xenon headlamps will be standard on plusher grades, while Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support and BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert will be optional. Mid-spec XLT adds rain & dusk sensors, 6 speed SelectShift automatic transmission, electrically adjustable/heated door mirrors w/LED indicators and puddle lamps, SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, rear parking sensors and anti-theft alarm.

I am now 54, not quite as silver as Maryon but my hair is 3 feet longer. My hair is just now getting wiry for some reason but I'm thankful I didn't have to deal with that aspect all these years. By the way, Maryon's second daughter was almost completely silver by 15 years old and her third daughter was born with gray hairs. Of course, both of our parents were completely silver by 25 (they both died young) so it was our inheritance. I stopped dying 3 years ago and never looked back. Get more compliments now than I ever did when I dyed it. Even have two friends who ditched the bottle because they liked my hair. You are only 45 minutes away from another color if you can't handle it. I am so happy I let my natural "highlights" come through. Thanks for the info. I've recently decided to stop dying my hair.

While there is no replacement for the grip of all-wheel drive when carving corners, DSC and TCS provide similar levels of sure-footedness during normal driving. However, the DSC is defeatable for those who wish to experience the full force of this front-wheel drive sedan's understeering potential. That big V6 does provide enough grunt to move the 6 without fuss. S models mate it to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual controls on the shifter - no paddles. Lesser i models get a five-speed auto. Unfortunately, there is no Sport mode for the transmission, which means shifting to manual control gets you gear changes that take just as long as when the computer is in control. The engine already has the extra weight of a larger car working against it, so it's a shame that the transmission doesn't help out by offering a mode with a more aggressive shift pattern. Instead, it generally tries to parse out the engine's power as efficiently as possible, which results in EPA estimated mileage numbers of 17 city and 25 highway.
