Plus, on average, Americans will buy seven to eight of those new cars in each of our lifetimes. 267,000 spent on cars, not including peripheral costs like insurance, registrations, repair and maintenance and also not adjusted for future inflation. 236,400. Even better, once you sell or trade a new car, it loses value, diminished to a small fraction of the new price, while over the long haul, real estate values almost always appreciate. New cars are a guaranteed money loser, not a winner. Therefore, for most people, the financial significance of car purchases is at least equal to home buying, and sometimes even more important. And there鈥檚 the big, high-minded lesson within a relatively small issue like wasted technology in cars, both for consumers and product planners: Don鈥檛 waste money on tech features that will never see use. Jim Resnick started his career writing and photographing for Vette, Car Craft and Chevy High Performance magazines. He then launched the BMW-focused Bimmer as Editor-in-Chief, while also holding down the Tech Editor chair at Sports Car International. Jim was then drafted into PR and Marketing roles with Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Jaguar Land Rover and ran Communications for Fender Musical Instrument Corporation, bringing a unique perspective to reporting. He鈥檚 also a recovering racer and guitarist.

Looking at my photo of worn components, you'll see the chain is now a "thicker" design as compared to the motorcycle type chains on the original version of this engine. I think one problem is that oil is not getting pushed into the chain and it breaks down under the repeated stress of passing through that gear. That takes us straight to stronger oil as a fix. The question is: Is the JLR specified oil too weak from the outset, or does the oil break down quickly in the engine? Once the engine has damage, you鈥檒l need repair parts. Both Land Rover and Atlantic British sell chain repair kits. To do the repair you will need a set of factory tools. The crank bolt is torqued over 500 foot-pounds and there is a holder for the pulley. There are tools to pin the engine and cams in proper place at top dead center, and a tool to set the chain that drives the high pressure injection pumps. On later 5 liter engines the crank bolts are left hand thread.

In other words, the Ford Focus Electric was a learning experiment. Most people in this segment bought the Nissan LEAF instead. In January 2018, Ford announced that it had 16 pure EVs under development on a global basis. It emphasized that those 16 all-new EVs were on a global basis, and that not all of those 16 were going to the U.S. 4. February 2018: Narrowing down the U.S. On February 15, Ford announced that six of these 16 EVs would be for the U.S. Ford Readies North America's Freshest Lineup by 2020 with Onslaught of Connected New Trucks, SUVs and Hybrids These six EVs will arrive by 2022. It also means that 10 of the 16 EVs will be for non-U.S. Ford also reiterated that the first of these six EVs will indeed be a de-facto Tesla Model Y competitor - a compact crossover-SUV with at least 300 miles of range.

It literally shut down in a deserted road. Out of my colleagues that have more or less the same requirements as I, the only good vehicle was the Mercedes G63 AMG, but that is clearly out of my budget of about 57k Canadian dollars. It is almost four and a half times the price of the most expensive Rubicon Unlimited. Within my budget, the best was the Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO, but again, the engine is a shitty V6 for such a heavy vehicle and a 5-speed automatic. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the HEMI seems to be the best choice for my budget, but Im afraid it will get stuck somewhere on a dirt road near a mine, which we visit frequently as we are technicians/network architects/consultants. I would say that I'm pretty ignorant about off-roading. And the only vehicle I have off-roaded in before was a Toyota Land Cruiser, which I would get if it did not cost twice as much as the maximum I want to pay.
