2019 Land Rover LR2 Specs, Price, MPG & Reviews

I wasn鈥檛 expecting to do much better than that, but I surprised myself by getting 24 mpg over the course of a few hundred miles 鈥?most of them on the highway. That鈥檚 not too bad considering the LR2鈥檚 hefty curb weight and decidedly non-wind-cheating shape. However, the XC60 and GLK350 have similar gas mileage estimates while offering stronger acceleration. In addition to contributing to stellar forward views, the LR2鈥檚 low-profile dashboard introduces some negative ergonomic aspects to the cabin. The low position of the center controls in relation to the high seating position means you鈥檙e always reaching down to adjust the radio 鈥?though there are steering wheel controls for it 鈥?and air conditioning. You even have to glance down quite a ways to take a look at the optional navigation system鈥檚 screen. Not helping matters is the fact that the buttons in the middle of the dash look mostly the same 鈥?they鈥檙e a flat gray 鈥?which makes it hard to find the one you want by touch alone.

The Land Rover Tangi was built by the Royal Ulster Constabulary's own vehicle engineering team during the 1990s. The British Army has used various armoured Land Rovers, first in Northern Ireland but also in more recent campaigns. They first added protective panels to Series General Service vehicles (the Vehicle Protection Kit (VPK)). Later they procured the Glover Webb APV and finally the Courtaulds (later NP Aerospace) Composite Armoured Vehicle, commonly known as Snatch. These were originally based on heavy-duty V8 110 chassis but some have recently been re-mounted on new chassis from Otokar of Turkey and fitted with diesel engines and air-conditioning for Iraq. Although these now have more in common with the 'Wolf' (Defender XD) Land Rovers that many mistakenly confuse them with, the Snatch and the Wolf are different vehicles. The most radical conversion of a Land Rover for military purposes was the Centaur half-track. It was based on a Series III with a V8 engine and a shortened belt drive from the Alvis Scorpion light tank. A small number was manufactured, and they were used by Ghana, among others.

Mechanical inspection is much more specialized and brand specific. A successful inspection is predicated on knowledge of what goes wrong with particular makes and models. This is particularly important when a manufacturer model line undergoes significant technological change. For example, a technician who was trained on the 2003 and newer VW-based Bentley would have little to guide him when inspecting the servo brakes on a 1965 Bentley, which uses totally different systems. My suggestion is that you look for an inspector on the forums of the marque club for the car that interests you. An endorsement from several club members would mean more to me than an ad from the Internet. If the car club can鈥檛 point you to an expert, your best bet will be to find a qualified and impartial service facility and engage them to evaluate the car. Thanks to the Internet it鈥檚 easy to look at reviews and descriptions of shops all over the country, and those shops may also be checked out on car club forums.
