British Cross Country Championship BXCC
With the cooling system reliant on the bonnet being fixed in place Cooke decided to retire. Lofthouse continued to dominate the event, setting the fastest time on each run to win by over three minutes from Cox. 鈥淲e had no problems at all,鈥?said Lofthouse. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a good weekend and the car has been perfect. I enjoyed the tussle with Tim on the first day but once he had retired we backed off a bit to preserve the car. Cox equalled his best-ever BCCC result in second place. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 keep up with the young guys but the retirements have given us a good result,鈥?commented Cox. 鈥淭he car was pretty faultless, the power steering had some issues which meant it wasn鈥檛 operating as well as it should but other than that we had a troublefree weekend. Toby Jefferson, who had former BCCC driver Gordon Monaghan in the navigator鈥檚 seat of his James Law Chemicals-supported GSR, took his best ever BCCC result in third.
The 2010 Mazdaspeed3 is the performance version of the Mazda3. Mazda has kept the turbocharged engine from the previous generation, but the car looks dramatically different. The Mazdaspeed is only available as a hatchback. The Speed3's grille is more exaggerated than the Mazda3 and has a lower air dam and flared front fenders. The hood has a wide scoop to funnel air through the car's high-mounted intercooler. Big dual tailpipes and a rear spoiler at the top of the liftgate spruce up the rear of the car. The 18-inch alloy wheels are unique to the 'Speed3. The Mazdaspeed shares its overall interior design with the regular Mazda3, but has red accent stitching on the shift boot, steering wheel and seat fabric. Other red treatments appear on the door panels and sport seat inserts. An LED turbo-boost gauge appears between the speedometer and tachometer. The Mazdaspeed makes 263 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque with the turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. The Mazdaspeed is front-wheel drive. The springs and the shock absorbers are now firmer than they were in the previous generation, with the steering rack now secured in three rather than two places. The Mazdaspeed has an electric steering pump with conventional hydraulic assist. This improves the efficiency of the previous generation's mechanical pump without sacrificing steering character. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist are standard, as is an electronic stability system with integrated traction control. Airbags include frontal, front-seat side impact and side curtains.
After asking employees for suggestions about what the company should do, Odeo founder Evan Williams gave Jack Dorsey two weeks to develop a prototype for his short messaging idea. Twitter was soon born. The same is true for all of us. Unlike previous generations, people now change jobs every few years and, according to researchers, will even switch careers up to six or seven times over a lifetime. That鈥檚 a very different world than previous generations. Little bets must become a way to see what鈥檚 around the next corner, lest we stagnate. Q: What surprised you most in what you found? A: One of the things that constantly surprised me was how many similar approaches and methods spanned across the vastly different fields. Story developers at Pixar, Army General H.R. McMaster, a counterinsurgency expert, and Frank Gehry use the same basic methods and of course make lots of little bets. They even use similar language and vocabulary - like "using constraints" or "reframing problems"- but they all learned their approaches through their experiences, not in school. Q: What companies are best at little bets? A: Amazon, Pixar, Apple, and to a lesser extent Toyota, 3M, and Google have little bets infused into their cultural DNA. Q:What鈥檚 the first step any of us can start taking tomorrow to start benefitting from a little bets approach? A: Commit to making a little bet. It doesn鈥檛 matter on what. Look for interesting problems and work toward larger aspirations. Maybe it鈥檚 going to be a presentation about starting a new nonprofit. Or maybe it鈥檚 trying a different approach for a work meeting. Once you get into the habit of making little bets, they can constantly open up new possibilities that just might lead to something big.
This was one of the reasons that the new Discovery became the first Land Rover to be offered with a rear locking differential. Another big change was the fitting of full independent suspension (FIS). Like the Series III Range Rover, this was an air suspension system, which allowed the ride-height of the vehicle to be altered by simply pumping up or deflating the air bags. The vehicle can be raised to provide ground clearance when off-road, but lowered at high speeds to improve handling. FIS had been seen as inferior to the older beam-axle when off-road due to its tendency to make the vehicle bottom out. Land Rover developed 'cross-linked' air suspension to solve this problem- when needed, the suspension mimics the action of a beam axle (as one wheel drops, the other rises). Further more, if the chassis of the vehicle contacts the ground when the suspension was at its 'off road' height, the system senses the reduction in load on the air springs and raises the vehicle an extra inch. In the UK and European markets, a coil-spring independent suspension system was offered on the base model.
