Hyundai Kona Vs Citroen C3 Aircross Vs Mazda CX-3

Hyundai Kona Vs Citroen C3 Aircross Vs Mazda CX-3

The Hyundai Kona we鈥檙e testing uses a downsized 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 118bhp, which is designed for economy, as well as good performance around town. It costs from 拢18,795 in Premium trim (the car in our pictures is an SE), which makes it the most expensive model in this test, although only by 拢100 over the Mazda CX-3. Despite its new platform, the Hyundai can鈥檛 match either rival for dynamic ability. The Kona鈥檚 steering is well weighted and it resists body roll while cornering, but it鈥檚 best described as safe to drive rather than fun. The Mazda is genuinely great behind the wheel and much more engaging. Keen drivers won鈥檛 be enticed by the Kona then, but that could be easily forgiven if it was as comfortable as the C3 Aircross, which trades engagement in return for a more supple ride. That鈥檚 not the case with the Kona; it deals with most roads acceptably, smoothing out smaller ripples, but potholes and large bumps crash into the cabin.

Those vehicles were simply amazing; unlike anything else I have ever seen. The elegance and artistry in the surfaces and details bring a whole new language to car design; offering something truly uniquely beautiful, making even exotic supercars look somewhat - average. Those designs re-affirmed to me that there are truly no limits in design, beyond the ones we put in-front of ourselves. 12. Americans are famous for not designing the most beautiful cars around, while everyone loves European (especially Italian) designs. You鈥檝e worked in both American and European design centers. What鈥檚 the difference between these two design philosophies? The largest difference I noticed was in "approach". In Europe, designers tend to take a more emotional approach to design, where as Americans designs tend to be more about problem solving and tradition. Aesthetically, I think European designs are more refined and sensitive to details; As opposed to American designs, which tend to be more bold, big, and aggressive.

That鈥檚 up 26 horsepower and just 3 pounds of torque from the 2018 model. The real story is how the revised engine makes its newfound gains. From lower engine speeds to 6,000 RPM, the outputs of the old ND1 (model year 2015-2018 MX-5s) and the new ND2 (2019 and later) are nearly identical, with the earlier cars having a slight edge with lower end torque. However, the magic really happens at 6,000 RPM. Where the ND1鈥檚 power drops off and runs out of steam, the ND2 keeps making more power well past 7,000 RPM. Never mind the driving experience, just by the dyno charts, the ND2鈥檚 engine updates are clearly transformative and this Mazda loves to rev now. A dual mass flywheel has replaced the single mass unit and the engine revs just as freely as before, but the new flywheel dampens out some driveline vibration. The change is subtle, in line with the goal of the 2019 updates. The final drive ratio鈥檚 been shortened by 4% for a hint of quicker acceleration.
