Fifty years of off-road prowess built Land Rover an enviable reputation. Even their newest and plushest offerings lived up to the 1960s slogan - No Road, No Problem. From its introduction in the 1950s the Land Rover was consistently one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the world. After Ford sold Land Rover to Tata the company seemed to take a different direction. They moved away from their rugged roots and became more urban, and far more luxurious. Skid plates vanished or were scaled back. Fragile plastic trim hung perilously close to the ground. Handling on the freeway improved greatly, at the expense of rock crawling and river crossing capability. Who cares about those things, anyway? The answer is, those things matter to collectors. They matter to people who keep Land Rovers at summer homes on the Cape and Islands. They matter to people who keep Land Rovers at their ski homes in Colorado.

The grille is narrower now, but they鈥檙e flanked by big headlamps. The latter are no longer round, but the rectangular covers hide round LED shapes. The engine hood is flat and features a bulge in the center, just like the old Defender. Even the cutout is similar and includes only the center section of the hood. This is a rather unusual feature on modern cars, which usually have hoods that extend from fender to fender. The profile is also similar. It retains the boxy lines and the tall beltline that passes right under the windows. The beltline is straight and featureless, just like on the old Defender. Likewise, there are no character lines on the door or the side skirts. It鈥檚 pretty obvious that Land Rover wanted to keep things as simpler and familiar as possible. There鈥檚 no view of the rear end, but it sure looks like the tailgate is as straight as they get, just like on the second-gen Defender. But it will have a wider tailgate for enhanced loading capability. The SUV will also feature modern LED taillights, most likely placed vertically on the sides.

One year after Ocana entered into the lease, he sued both Warren Henry and Ford. Ocana alleged he had returned the vehicle to the dealership for repairs at least four times. 鈥?within the meaning of section 2304 of the MMWA. Look at door bottoms on older Series Land Rovers, they collect damp around the turned-up edges. Roof rack clips might accumulate rust where the water can't escape along the rain strip. Steel engine pipes shouldn't be rusty if the vehicle is in use, and watch out for plastic or rubber pipes that are in contact with parts that get hot in use. They can be held in place with plastic strapping used for large bags or else you could find yourself losing coolant or brake fluids etc! The air pipes should be checked regularly. You don't want them perforated. Look at the bracing on the exhaust pipe. How much would you have to lay out if all these things were to go 'on the blink' at the same time? Does the engine lose oil? Look for drips underneath. If there are black patches under the vehicle you could be in line for a costly ride.
