Don't Think You Need To Brand Your School?





Name India's most valued and trusted brand. Since its inception in 1858, the Tata Group has established itself as India's most valuable brand across independent surveys by Interbrand and Brand Finance. It is virtually impossible to spend a day without being exposed to ads or messages from a Tata Group company. Be it Jaguar, Land Rover, Taj Hotels, Titan, Fastrack, Tanishq, Tata Sky or its many other brands, Tata is everywhere. What's fascinating, however, is that when you think of the Tata Group, the first thing that comes to mind is hardly its ads! Far from it. What comes to mind are its iconic leaders, its service to the nation and its focus on creating lasting customer value. And THAT is what a great brand is all about - offering unique, sustained value, while being savvy enough to focus on growing its business. Where do you stand? Which stance is right? Here's the good news. It's not about one stance vs.





The technology is certainly impressive, but the driving experience is prosaic. Stomp on the quasi-hybrid's gas pedal and you get the same response as you would in a regular Sierra. Its 295hp Vortec 5300 propels the pickup to 60mph in under eight secs. Again, I'm no fan of the way this (or any) pickup truck handles bumps and bends, but there's no question that the General's demi-hybrid has enough grunt to leave a tree hugger's Toyota Prius for dead. Things start to get hinky when you take your foot off the gas. There's a strange sensation of increased drag- something between engine braking and the feeling that you've run out of gas. The fact that the slowing effect is caused by the fuel-saving engine cut-off feature is morally comforting, but dynamically distracting. Braking feel, as the stoppers reclaim energy for the batteries, is similarly peculiar. Fortunately, braking performance isn't affected. When you bring the Sierra to a full stop, the oil pressure indicator dies.

I鈥檓 also impressed and surprised at the level of comfort and refinement Land Rover built into this latest Defender. A stark contrast to the old Defender, this new machine offers things like heated seats in all three rows! It also has advanced smart LED headlights that dim in sections when it detects oncoming traffic to avoid blinding other drivers. Sure, the front end isn鈥檛 all that attractive, and the overall shape could be mistaken for a number of other SUVs on the market (at least from certain angles). From near or far, though, this new Land Rover stays true to the iconic silhouette of the original Defender that is instantly recognizable around the world. Competition has imitated many of these traits 鈥?originated with the early-series Land Rovers 鈥?for years. Thew 2020 Defender comes in two sizes 鈥?the two-door 90 and four-door 110 鈥?and six trim levels.





But as you can see from the flow chart above, even if the leadership group turns an idea down, that need not be the end of it. If a person feels that this idea is still to good to ignore, it can be put to a debate and subsequent vote inside the company. If the idea is voted through, this overrides the EXCO鈥檚 decision and the idea goes ahead anyway. Another thing they do on the board is highlight the costs of previous ideas, so employees know how much things end up costing. It鈥檚 not just a bunch of documents or lines in a spreadsheet - this is highly visual which gives you a great overview. It鈥檚 also well-designed and looks pretty, which probably helps a little too. This could also be done on the intranet or in an app, but I kinda like that it鈥檚 on paper and cork board and you vote with stickers. This also makes it very flexible. Also, a page or an app is on demand - that means that people need to be proactive to access their democracy (and apathy is a killer).
