Ford Motor Company Reports February 2006 U.S. Ford sales totaled 244,021, down 4 percent compared with a year ago. Ford's F-Series truck up 6 percent. DEARBORN, Mich., March 1, 2006; U.S. 244,021 cars and trucks from Ford , Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo dealers in February, down 4 percent compared with a year ago. Year-to-date through February, sales totaled 449,692, down 1 percent. Ford's F-Series truck posted another sales increase to start the year. F-Series sales totaled 62,862, up 6 percent compared with a year ago. The company's domestic brands (Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln) achieved higher car sales for the second month in a row on continued strong demand for their all-new, mid-size sedans. Land Rover dealers reported record February sales of 3,453, up 28 percent compared with a year ago. The company plans to produce 890,000 vehicles (325,000 cars and 565,000 trucks) in the second quarter 2006. In the second quarter 2005, the company produced 906,000 vehicles (294,000 cars and 612,000 trucks). In the first quarter 2006, the company plans to build 885,000 vehicles (320,000 cars and 565,000 trucks). This plan is equal to the previously- announced production plan.
The Diesel Turbo produced 85 hp (63 kW), a 13% increase over the naturally aspirated unit, and a 31.5% increase in torque to 150 lb路ft (203 N路m) at 1800 rpm. Externally, turbo-diesel vehicles differed from other models only by having an air intake grille in the left-hand wing to supply cool air to the turbo. The engine was adopted as the standard engine for UK and European markets. Early turbo-diesel engines gained a reputation for poor reliability, with major failures to the bottom-end and cracked pistons. A revised block and improved big end bearings were introduced in 1988, and a re-designed breather system in 1989. These largely solved the engine's problems, but it remained (like many early turbo-diesels) prone to failure if maintenance was neglected. At the same time that the Diesel Turbo was introduced, the V8 engine was upgraded. Power was increased to 134 hp (100 kW), and SU carburettors replaced the Zenith models used on earlier V8s. To maximise sales in Europe, Land Rover set up the Special Vehicles Division, which handled special low-number conversions and adaptations to the vehicles.
This should offer much better fuel economy and even lower emissions. A new 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine based upon the current 2.7 litre V6 and an all new direct injection 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine will find its way in some Land Rover's and Jaguar's. The 5.0 litre V8 could find its way under the upcoming XF-R hood. No information has been surfaced yet but a 拢40,000 price tag is expected. The new coupe maybe based upon the XK or XF platform. C-XE (registered on 18.04.2008) could hint at a cabriolet version of the upcoming XE coupe. This is likely to rival the Porsche Boxster, Mercedes SLK and BMW Z4. Transmission wise, a new 8-speed ZF gearbox is key to the hybrid development. It features a completely new approach to the internal design of an auto, itself a fuel-saving feature, and a separate hydraulic reservoir that makes the 'box compatible with stop-start devices unlike today's six-speed ZF unit. The XK coupe and cabriolet first came into production in 2005/2006. Since then, a slight refresh has been offered for the 2008 model year. 2010 could see a complete facelift or a whole new model.
In 2010, automakers sold 183,781 premium SUVs in China. JLR aims to capture 10 percent of the premium SUV market with the Land Rover brand, according to Grace. He said JLR's growth in China would slow to 20 percent this year compared with around 40 percent last year. Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 sales in China climbed 39 percent to 66,505 vehicles in the first nine months, according to company data. Grace told reporters at the new factory. Sales will, however, benefit from the new factory, he said. The factory is equally owned by the British carmaker and local joint-venture partner Chery Automobile. JLR is the latest foreign automaker to set up factories in China to avoid duties that make imported vehicles less competitive. 94,000 Evoque. The company has said it expects local production to cut prices by 15 percent, which may help it extend a lead over Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' SUV-centric Jeep brand and narrow a gap with Audi.
