GAYDON, UK, 15 APRIL 2014: Land Rover today revealed its Discovery Vision Concept SUV in New York. 鈥淲e announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March that the Discovery family is set to evolve. And it is apt that in the 25th anniversary year of the original Discovery that we preview how this evolution will take us forward into a daring new era. TheDiscoveryVision Concept alludes to its unique lineage with design elements such as the stepped roof. Far greater attention than ever before has been given to creating relevant versatility combined with compelling design. This is a radical and sharply focused approach to embodying Land Rover鈥檚 vision of the ultimate leisure SUV.

There's just a hair more than 26 cubic feet of space between the second row seatback and the Sportage's hatch, and that number expands to almost 55 cubes with the seat folded forward. The 2015 Kia Sportage does not introduce any new features. Despite their simple nature, the 2015 Kia Sportage's control set is quite effective at keeping you warm, toasty, and entertained out on the road. I particularly liked the ability to 'de-list' satellite radio stations that I never listen to, which meant skipping past them while scrolling through the channel list using the rotary knob under the Sportage's LCD touchscreen. I also found it easy to sync my phone with the Kia using Bluetooth, allowing me to stream music and access hands-free calling almost immediately upon entering the vehicle. If I were being critical, I would say that the sound quality of the stereo system itself wasn't all that impressive, but that's true of most vehicles in the SUV's class.

Off the black, she performed reasonably well, the major hindrance being the extended bumper and side skirts which deprived it of its approach, ramp break over and departure angles, reducing them significantly. Ground clearance of 210mm and wading depth of 500mm are impressive in this segment. The large turning radius of 11.4m is again a compromise in tight spots. Land Rover now has a brilliant Terrain Response system which is mated to a full-time 4x4 gearbox with an electronic centre coupling comprising of six forward gears with Command Shift (aka tip-tronic). A knob (very awkwardly placed behind the gear shifter) controls the off-road terrain settings namely, general driving, grass/gravel/snow, mud and ruts and sand. The hill descent control system is smart and automatically engages when descending hills in case you forget to switch it on. Our test car came with all black, dull interiors, which made the cabin look small and dreary. A 6-disc in-dash CD changer with nine speakers provided entertainment. Driver and passenger seats are comfortable and have excellent lumbar support. People taller than 6 feet would have problems getting into the rear seats as the legroom is minimal.

Soon after that they took my military driver's license away, never to be returned. But here we are durn near 30 years later and there's another short wheely Rover sitting in my dooryard here on our farm in Maine. How did that happen? All of which sounds like a very fun rest of the summer to me. And at the end of it all we'll have a farm truck and local run-around car that ought to last for twenty more years. Much needed, since I just found terminal rust and a very poor set of brake rotors and calipers on our 1997 Ford Escort, and since the Nissan can't possibly last more than two or three more years. 12 set of pads and some elbow grease and then just run out the remaining life in the car before scrapping it. One, at the most two more winters. We'll put our money in the Land Rover instead. It should keep its value and even improve in condition and reliability over the years as I plug away at it. One day we'll even send away to Sheffield for a galvanized frame. I'll die before this truck does. Hats off to Aimee for believing, or at least pretending to believe in the Land Rover project. I've officially used up my stock of wifely patience for the year, plus all my birthdays and Christmas presents for the forseeable future.
