It also surprises me that any consumer would defend an overpriced car for the dealer; of course dealers may post here also, who knows. The only reason I can think of for defending a high price is when you think the car is worth it and you are proud of being able to afford it when others can not. That's a fine and expected attitude if you own a Ferrari; but not if you own an LR2, it's a mid sized average SUV that's clearly overpriced. That's nothing to be proud of owning just because you can afford to pay the price.





The Range Rover Evoque will be the first model built at Jaguar Land Rover's new China factory, company CEO Ralf Speth said. Speth told journalists at a press event in London. Jaguar Land Rover may add production of its new Land Rover Discovery Sport at a later date, he said. The factory in Changshu, northeast of Shanghai, will officially open in October with production starting shortly after. Jaguar Land Rover's joint venture with China's Chery Automobile will run the plant. It is the automaker's first full-scale assembly plant outside the United Kingdom and includes an engine plant that will start production in 2015. That plant will produce the automaker's new range of Ingenium four-cylinder engines. China is a fast-growing market for Jaguar Land Rover. The plant also will build vehicles to be sold under a new joint-venture brand, which was a condition of the Chinese government's approval of the factory. Last year, Jaguar Land Rover made a profit before taxes of 2.5 billion pounds (24.9 billion yuan).





One of two engines lays beneath the hood of every Discovery. The base unit is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine with a stout 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, plus the ability to tow 8,201 pounds. Buyers can move to a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 engine with 254 hp and 443 lb-ft, along with a tow rating of 7,716 lbs. The diesel engine gets better fuel economy, at 21 miles per gallon city, 26 highway and 23 combined, compared to the gasoline engine鈥檚 16, 18, and 21 rating. Both engines hook up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Since this is a Land Rover, there鈥檚 far more to the Discovery than basic on-road capability. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard, replete with the brand鈥檚 Terrain Response 2 system. Terrain Response 2 has several modes that either enable the SUV detect the terrain underfoot and proceed accordingly, or empower drivers to choose for themselves.





Since the very beginning all Series and Defender models have been used in a military capacity. Often this has entailed just slightly modifying civilian models (primarily adding military "blackout" lights), but some dedicated military models have also been developed such as the forward control and the lightweight. The Discovery has also been used in small numbers, mostly as liaison vehicles. Two models that have been designed for military use from the ground up are the 101 Forward Control from the early 1970s and the Lightweight or Airportable from the late 1960s. The latter was intended to be transported by helicopter. Military modifications include 24 Volt electrics, convoy lights, electronic suppression of the ignition system, blackout curtains and mounts for special equipment and small arms. Military uses include light utility vehicle, communications platform, weapon platform for recoilless rifles, TOWs or machine guns, ambulances and workshops. One famous adaptation of Land Rovers to military purposes is the "Pink Panther" models. Approximately 100 Series IIAs were adapted to reconnaissance use by the British special operations forces the SAS. For desert use they were often painted pink, hence the name. The vehicles were fitted with among other gear a sun compass, machine guns, larger fuel tanks and smoke dischargers. Series and Defenders have also been uparmoured. The most widespread of these is the Shorts Shorland, built by Shorts Brothers of Belfast. The first of these were delivered in 1965 to the Royal Ulster Constabulary, the Northern Ireland police force. The power take-off is driven through a Hardy-Spicer propeller shaft from the main gearbox output and two interchangeable pinions giving two ratios.
