The GT is without a doubt best engineered and most successful modern car in Bentley鈥檚 history. The GT is the first Bentley designed by a full engineering team, using one foundation (VW powertrain engineering.) The days of grafting together parts from other car lines came to an end with this groundbreaking vehicle. That said, it is not without its problems as we are beginning to discover. In an earlier review I described the GT series as generally reliable. While that鈥檚 true, we are seeing the emergence of some issues that will carry a noteworthy repair cost and affect a significant percentage of cars. None of the things in this article worry me terribly but owners should be aware of them, and prepare for the costs. Before describing these issues I should say that they are fewer in number, and lower in cost, that the issues that befall earlier products from Crewe. Shadow/T era cars are infamous for hydraulic problems, and the Turbo/Spur successor line is not much better.
It's nice and boxy - I like that! The hood looks boxy but that's a disguise for the test mule. You can see the poor panel gaps and a few photos show the proof. The fender flares are also boxy. But I see something else. It looks like they might have some plastic fender trim. You can see the edge and an odd outline in the wrap surface. It appears to be the surface pattern of a fender trim piece. If this is black plastic trim, then owners can look forward to that fading to grey after a few years. In general, I think it looks a lot like the old LR3/LR4 with the spare tire moved to the rear door (like old Defenders). It looks to be shorter than the old LR3/LR4 models. This is due to my previous statement. This might mean less interior cargo volume. I could lay flat in my LR3 and LR4, and did that to sleep several times. A shorter cargo space might prevent that.
