Our Family: July 2019
An ugly tear along the side of the tire inflicted by some rocks along the jeep trails. Did I mention something about it raining? So this Dad and 5 others changed a tire. I should also mention that after we stopped, Jackson woke up and joined his friend Logan in the back of their suburban to watch a DVD. He did put his head out the window and asked once if it was time to canoe yet? So I know he had some semblance of his surroundings. And we finally made it to the camp to get our canoes. This Dad prides himself on canoeing in moving water. I have done some stupid things in lakes before trying to fish alone in a canoe, but on moving water I have always done very well. Not everyone else on these kinds of trips does know how to handle a boat however, and forgetting that became a critical error in my thinking at one point on the river. We had been having an easy time of it.
That鈥檚 a sure sign of repair in the right rear, whether we can see it or not. Paint on a modern production car is applied by robotics and is highly consistent all over the vehicle. A car will leave the factory with 4 to 7 thousandths of paint, and the coating will not generally vary by plus or minus a thousandth wherever you look. When we read the side of a new Range Rover we see 6, 6.4, 6.4, and 6 as we walk from rear corner to rear door to front door to front fender. That consistent paint thickness is a strong indication that side of the car is original and untouched. A reading of 9 or12 in the corner would indicate a repair of some kind. Collector cars are often painted by hand, and you will see more variability there. The paint is also often thicker. A 1990s Rolls Royce might have 8-12 thousandths even when new, and it could have 4 thousandths variation right out of the factory. So you have to interpret the readings in context.
No back a reassuring thoughts for petrolheads. Then there鈥檚 the Mazda Vision Coupe, which has impressed at Tokyo with its sophisticated style and gorgeous detailing. Nissan too has done its very best to grab headlines, revealing the Leaf Nismo Concept in Tokyo.
I'm new to this site so forgive me if this post is in the wrong place. I've just purchased a Jag compatible OBD reader and it seems to be working OK or at least it's reading the engine parameters. Since I had the "courage" in 2014 to buy a 2007 2.2 HSE TD4 frillo with 95,000 km (now it has 215,000) I have always, despite the odds, used Land authorized workshops. Lately, however, I must say, I am seized by a certain discomfort. Dear All I drive the Defender since 2010 and i didn`t have this failure before. My question is now, what can I do?
