The Range Rover Sport, Land Rover's sporty luxury SUV, enters 2010 with two all-new V8 engines. Although Land Rover labels these 5.0-liter DOHC engines "LR-V8," they are actually the latest iterations of the Jaguar AJ-V8 family, shared with the 2010 Jaguar XF sedan. Both engines have many new features, including a novel spray-guided direct injection system that uses multiple injection holes to optimize combustion at all speeds, providing faster engine warm-up, greater power, and lower emissions. Direct injection and reverse-flow cooling, which sends coolant to the heads before the block, allow higher compression ratios and greater spark advance without detonation. A unique variable camshaft timing system uses the torque generated by the motion of the valves to continuously adjust all four cams. Land Rover says this system -- an industry first -- is faster and more efficient than a conventional hydraulic setup. Each camshaft also has separate profiles for low- and high-rpm, altering valve lift to enhance breathing at all engine speeds. The Range Rover Sport HSE has a normally aspirated version of this engine, rated at 375 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque -- 75 horsepower more than in 2009, and only 15 horsepower shy of last year's supercharged engine. The Supercharged model adds an Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger, packaged in the valley between the cylinder banks. It feeds each bank via a separate air-to-water intercooler. The supercharger boosts the 5.0-liter V8 to 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have impressive power and a rich-sounding growl. Although the Supercharged model is not as powerful as the 555-horsepower BMW X5 M, it gives the Range Rover Sport fierce acceleration that belies its three-ton mass. Both LR-V8s are thirsty, however. EPA ratings are 13/18 for the HSE, 12/17 for the Supercharged, and premium fuel is required.

Since owning the car going on four years, I have had absolutely no issues. The car while and older version still looks great, interior looks updated. Has a smooth ride and has great hauling capabilities. The car features enough options like heated seats and moon roof that comes in handy thru out the year. The gas usage is comparable to other SUVs. My only concern is that Maintenance is expensive, but then again its a Land Rover. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for luxury SUV a decent price. Also available is 3-across front seating鈥攁nother Defender tradition鈥攚ith the center section a separate jump seat whose backrest folds forward to function as a center armrest with cupholders when the seat is not occupied by a passenger. This configuration will be available in the U.S. Design-wise, the cabin exposes structural elements such as screw heads and the cross-car magnesium beam in the deash and painted-metal surfaces are visible. A rubberized floor covering is used, on top of which are removable carpeted mats. How many passengers does the Defender seat? Two body styles will be offered. The 2-door Defender 90 rides on a 101.9鈥?wheelbase and has seating for five, or six with the 3-passenger front seat. The 4-door Defender 110 is a-foot-and-a-half longer overall and has a similarly stretched wheelbase. 2 seating for seven. It is also available with 2-row seating for six using the front jump seat. Cargo space in the Defender 90 is 15.6 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 58.3 with the rear seats folded.
