The 3rd Annual Arizona Land Rover Rally was a great success. Seventy vehicles met in Tucson, Arizona March 6th and 7th at the Hilton Tucson East for two days of trail driving. Land Rovers came from as far away as British Columbia, Canada to enjoy the sunny skies and warm February weather in southern Arizona. We brought along our 8 year old niece to ride in the Dormobile. Tucson has a mountain ranges in each of the four cardinal directions, and there were trails to run in three of them. To the north, one of the most famous difficult trails in the western USA is Charouleau Gap, which attracts hardcore four wheelers from all over the continent. To the east, trails like Chivo Falls and Chimney Rock are more on the moderate side. To the south, the trails are a little easier. Temporal Gulch is one of the trails to the south, in the Santa Rita Mountains.

Featuring in this parade will be an original Range Rover, and one of the last Defenders to roll of the production line. The festival is renowned for attracting the rarest and most exciting road and race cars and motorcycles ever created, with this year being no different. Here are some of the standouts that will be making an appearance this weekend. A special edition Ford Mustang GT paying tribute to the US fighter pilots who served in the RAF during World War II will be making it's world debut. This one-of-a-kind Mustang GT takes inspiration from the RAF Eagle Squadrons that flew over the fields of Goodwood nearly 80 years ago, so it's fitting that it makes its first appearance here. This car will be piloted up the hill by world champion Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin Jr on Thursday 12 July, and will be on static display throughout the rest of the festival.

Inside, one will find a two-toned theme of the cabin, a dashboard that will more than likely look like the Freelanders current offering, and luxurious material ranging from leather and wood to carbon fiber and aluminum. Engine options will also be quite numerous with the stop-start technology fitted into a 2.2 liter diesel and a 3.2 liter straight six gas version. This means lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. There are rumors of the car using a more advanced type of hybrid system as well, with talk of the use of super capacitors instead of batteries that will store energy from regenerative braking. Motors hidden in the front wheels will allow a driver to get more speed as electricity flows to run them. All in all, this is a Land Rover and only quality is expected from this seasoned manufacturer. No name has been given to the new baby Land Rover but there have been suggestions of sticking it with the Freelander brand.

The combination of the two mix high power with low end flexibility and maximum efficiency. The i6 also has a variable length inlet tract which adapts to optimise both high end power and low end torque. The i6 engine was originally developed with Land Rover applications in mind and is designed to resist dust, mud and water intrusion as well as operation at acute tilt angles. The exterior of the LR2 gets a new look for 2011 with a new front bumper assembly incorporating new front fog lamp bezels. There鈥檚 a new front grille in two finishes, Dark Finish for the 150PS TD4 and Bright Finish for the 190PS diesel and petrol. The Halogen projector headlamps are new, as are the rear tail lamps which now have a clear inner lens and a black lens surround for greater definition. The tailgate handle is now finished in body colour and the full width signature strip is finished in Noble. Additional body coloured parts include door handles, headlamp washer jets and door mirrors and on SD4 and i6 petrol models the lower side door panels and rear bumper are fully painted as standard (available as an option on other models).
