It Measures Just 8 Square Miles
This is a tale of three island nations-- Taiwan, Nauru, and Tuvalu. Taiwan needs friends in the international community. China is snatching up diplomatic recognition at a fast clip. Taiwan is relegated to being friends with about two dozen poor countries in Central America, the Pacific, and Africa. It keeps these friendships with "donations" like medical supplies, catered banquets, and scholarships. Nauru and Tuvalu are two such friends. That's how I found these two leaders' rides, on Taiwan's foreign ministry's website. 177. Tuvalu. With a population of 12,000, it is not a rich country. 20 million. A tenth of that income is from selling the rights to the internet suffix ".tv". 13 million to build the island's government center. At three-stories, it's the tallest building in the country. Tuvalu is made up of a number of desolate islands. When the prime minister visits a neighboring island, he has to ride in whatever is available. And in the case below, he had to ride in a Mazda truck. 178. Nauru. Nauru has a sad story. It measures just 8 square miles. It used to be covered with bird poop and was a phosphate "gold" mine. Unfortunately, all of the poop has been shipped away and billions of dollars in proceeds have disappeared. Here we see President Scotty last year in front of his E-class Mercedes. Nauru is mired in debt.
62,730. Not a steal, but still far cheaper than a similarly equipped Model S. Thunder Power鈥檚 long-range objective is to enter the US market and compete head-to-head with Tesla. Tesla is not amused. Tesla isn't the only victim in the Asian clone war. The Land Wind X7 is a line-for-line forgery of the 2015 Range Rover Evoque luxury SUV. Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth complained he was "powerless" to stop the X7 because Chinese law does not consider vehicle design protected intellectual property. Engineers and marketing people don鈥檛 understand what it takes to build a car company from scratch and make it last. 60,654. Before sales started this summer, Bloomberg reported more than 5,500 people had already ordered the car. That said, what are the chances the clonemakers will succeed? Joe Dematio, the deputy editor of Road & Track, says it鈥檚 more likely than some industry analysts might think. 鈥淔ive years ago, I didn鈥檛 think Tesla would become a viable business. Today, though, they make a really good car.
Perhaps most importantly, it does it for less money. The TDV6 engine option remains the cheapest way into the Range Rover Sport but the TDV8 combines bullish performance with acceptable economy. Available in HSE trim only, it's considerably more expensive than the V6 option but the newer engine makes bludgeoning a path across any surface a relaxing and enjoyable experience. A comprehensive set of systems for tackling more arduous terrain is the icing on the cake. The Range Rover Sport is cheaper than its bigger brother but still a fine machine on and off-road. The TDV8 engine also brings power and performance to customers who previously may have been put off by the petrol variants' enormous thirst. Insurance groupings for the performance models are naturally higher than for an average SUV, but not astronomical. Running costs are likely to reflect those of a capable sports car. It's roomy, but legroom for rear passengers isn't as plentiful as you might assume. Regardless, it will seat five adults and take all of their luggage with ease. The split rear tailgate is a useful touch, but in terms of practicality the real star of the show is the Sport's off-road ability.
As we said, there are possibilities of hybrid powertrains in the future, but for now, there isn鈥檛 any. The ongoing Evoque comes with the single 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder unit that has 237 horsepower. If you opt for SE, SE Premium, HSE, Convertible, and Landmark Edition you will get this output. The Evoque HSE Dynamic and Autobiography trims get the same powerplant but with a different output of 286hp. With both engine variants, you get the same 9-speed automatic transmission. As for the price, there will certainly be changes to the upcoming model. It will go up, but right now it鈥檚 hard to determine for how much. Now, you are probably excited for the upcoming 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, but calm down a bit. This set of photos are the first one that captures this forthcoming SUV. The tests have just begun, so Evoque won鈥檛 become available anytime soon. It will be released in early or mid-2019, and it will be marketed as 2020 MY.
