It was available with a 3-door body for a short wheelbase (SWB) or a 5-door body for a long-wheelbase (LWB). The Gen I platform was later built under licence by Hyundai Precision Products as the Hyundai Galloper from 1991 to 2003, and exported to Europe for a brief time. While it used first generation mechanicals, the Galloper's body was closer to the second generation Pajeros. Mitsubishi sold over three hundred thousand Pajeros from 1979 to 1990. However, the time for a redesign was long due and January 1991 saw the first Generation II Pajero, although exports did not commence until later. Just about everything was now new and further enhanced. A new, larger body was available in four different versions; Metal Top, Canvas Top Convertible, Semi High Roof Wagon and High Roof Wagon (long wheelbase). The short wheelbase models were stretched by 70 millimetres (2.8 inches) and the long-wheelbase models by 30 millimetres (1.2 inches).

THE new Range Rover compact 4x4 that will create another 1,000 jobs in Merseyside was named as the Evoque at a celebrity launch - and Victoria Beckham was named as the brand's new 'creative design executive'. The vehicle - first unveiled as the Land Rover LRX concept car - was unveiled last night at an exclusive 40th birthday party for Range Rover in the grounds of Princess Diana's former home at Kensington Palace. The improved suspension of the updated Defender meant that even a vicious-looking pothole evoked merely a shrug from the vehicle. Land Rover have a solid reputation built upon durability, and with their development of easy handling and ride comfort it's not hard to see why this iconic brand has endured even as local agriculture has sadly waned. I felt slightly treacherous in my enjoyment of the journey in the Defender, but there's no reason why a classic design has to mean a sore posterior. All too soon I found myself heading back towards the dealership, wondering whether the Series IIA would still provide the same fulfillment now that I knew what I had been missing. I admit that I was fully won over, and signed on the dotted line with only the briefest moment of hesitation as I wondered whether the Series IIA would throw some kind of sulk. For anyone looking for a vehicle that combines off-road capabilities with on-road comfort, a used Land Rover could very well prove to be the ideal choice.
