Michael Porter's concept of demand conditions is related to the domestic demands laid on the company by end customers, suppliers, government, etc. thus exposing the company to the challenge of managing demand-supply ratio. Ford has demonstrated immense analytical and adaptive strengths in absorbing and delivering against the demands of the local economies wherever they have established their business. They never try to push their established products of United States, the UK and European markets in the newly formed markets of developing countries. They have established knowledge bases of market, economical, statutory and engineering issues of different countries. They have proactively focused on developing and manufacturing indigenous products in their respective markets taking into account local demands, maintainability, affordability, demographic and economic conditions, mean time between failures, accident rates, road and traffic conditions, and environment related laws. This is one of the reasons why Ford Motor Company is known in different countries for different models whereby the customers of one country may not have experienced the models prevailing in other countries.
When revved hard, the 6.0-liter offered a muted yet spine-tingling burble. Despite the weight, the excellent drivetrain pushes the Yukon from zero to sixty miles per hour in about eight seconds. The system manages a decent-for-such-a-behemoth 20mpg both in the city AND on the highway. The Yukon Hybrid's suspension is as ridiculous as the drivetrain is sublime. The steering feels vague at low speeds and darty on the highway. Engaging four-wheel-drive mode makes the rig feel like a forklift, with all four wheels pushing in different directions. The Yukon skitters and wallows during cornering and shudders like a Sebring convertible over rough patches. The massive weight smooths out the ride to decent levels, but the European and Japanese competition put the Yukon to shame in comfort, control and cornering ability. As for that highly-touted 25 percent fuel economy improvement, yes, I achieved the advertised mpg in mixed driving. But I wonder how much of that gain's down to the non-drivetrain mods. Equally perplexing: why hasn't GM incorporated them into normal Yukotahburbelades? Is the American automaker shortchanging their gas-powered SUVs to protect the hybrid versions' rep? Clearly, the Yukon Hybrid raises more questions than it answers. Meanwhile, one thing is for sure: at that price, in this market, the Yukon Hybrid will not be flying off the lots.
The gearbox used in series Land Rovers was first used by Rover in 1932. This gearbox has undergone several modifications since then but is still basically the original design. This gearbox was considered advanced and strong when it was introduced and was finally discontinued because it could no longer be modified to hold up to the power and weight of newer Land Rovers. From 1948 (first LR production) to 1950 the gearbox had permanent 4WD with a freewheel device in the front prop shaft. From 1951 Rover fitted a transfer case with the now well known 'yellow and red knobs' right up through series III. The dipstick and top oil fill disappeared with the introduction of the "B" suffix gearbox. At that time the transfer case intermediate gear shaft diameter was increased for additional strength.
