Land Rover Discovery Series 1 (from 1989 To 2019)

Land Rover Discovery Series 1 (from 1989 To 2019)

The market had to wait until the autumn of 1990 before the five-door bodyshell was also made available; this came to account for the vast majority of Discovery sales. A 2.0-litre 16v petrol MPi version was announced in June 1993 (it was not to prove a great success) and, in September of that year, the old 3.5-litre V8 was replaced by the 3.9-litre V8 from the old-shape Range Rover. The major event in the Discovery's history occurred in March 1994. Keen to sell the car in the United States, Rover took the opportunity to develop twin airbags. At the same time, the Sir Terence Conran designed interior was changed and modernised and the front grille given a facelift to include larger, flush-fitting headlamps. The diesel engine too, was made more refined. At the same time, a flagship 鈥楨S鈥?model with leather and air conditioning was added to the top of the range.

India launched a space probe and rover bound for the South Pole area of Earth's Moon. The launch, which had been delayed since July 15 due to technical problems, came just a couple days after the 50th anniversary of the first humans, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, to set-foot on the Moon. If this mission is successful, India will become the fourth Earth nation to soft-land a probe on the Moon. Up until now, only the United States, Russia, and China have successfully soft-landed probes on the Moon. On January 3, China became the first nation to soft-land a probe on the far side of the Moon, the Chang'e 4 Lander and Rover. On April 11, the Beresheet Lunar Lander, developed by Israel's private SpaceIL organization and launched from Cape Canaveral by SpaceX, attempted a soft-landing on the Moon. However, the robotic probe crashed on the lunar surface due to a main engine failure in the final descent.

The Land Rover Coupe SUV Concept is an upcoming crossover SUV coupe Concept Car that will introduce Land Rover's future styling direction as well reinvent Land Rover's image into a green, low C02 environmentally-conscious marque. It is expected to be introduced at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2008 as a sportier alternative to the Land Rover LR2/Freelander, slotting below and above the entry-level SUV. It is also the first Land Rover to be design by Gerry McGovern as Land Rover's CoD. As of this writing, there are no other information available and the name itself is not yet released or confirmed. See Autopedia's comprehensive Review. The LRX is the most compact Land Rover to date. Terrain technologies. These include biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, and the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system. ERAD encompasses the incorporation of an electric motor into the rear axle of the vehicle.

Rogers is also keen to stress that JLR is working with a number of technology partners - a programme which includes a recently announced deal with BMW on producing electric drive units. The likes of LG, Bosch, QNX and Google-owned Waymo are also on the partner roster. We leave Rogers鈥?office and follow him through the busy engineering base to a facelifted XE saloon, where Dan Clifton, one of JLR鈥檚 experts in Human Machine Interface (HMI) is ready to show us around. But before that, Rogers proudly shows us the door grab handles on the new XE, which now come with a 360-degree grip; this is entirely the result of customer feedback. That鈥檚 something that Clifton stresses about the infotainment system, too. 鈥淲e鈥檙e simplifying HMI,鈥?he tells us. 鈥淲e鈥檙e going back to the underlying Human Factors science. We鈥檙e looking at the position of the touchscreen and the reach required to reduce cognitive load on the driver; we鈥檙e rewriting standards.
