Laughs And Lashings
New Shipment/ New Baby! The last week plus has been a bit crazy. After a couple of weeks' delay, my new container full of diesel engines and vintage Land Rovers finally arrived to much joy shared by the New Mosieurs. All of this has been stressful and not a 'normal' birth, but after the initial shock and excitement, we are settling in to the idea that she is premature but with an EXCELLENT prognosis, in fact, she is doing great. Needless to say, business and projects came to a screeching halt, and I am hoping to be back in the shop this week for a few hours a day to triage the problems/projects/work and come up with a plan. At least the container arrived, so I will likely be listing many things for sale soon. Range Rover thus far. This has been my first time up for air in many days, and I thought I would throw an announcement out there to those of you who may be following. Back in business soon! May will be great!
Land Rover is building a new Discovery. It is not a standard redesign since the company is going to use the new platform. What鈥檚 more, the company announced a longer life of the battery pack in the PHEV model. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery will be able to run 50 miles by using only electric power. We will see if the new platform will help Land Rover achieve this high expectation. The release date is set for this summer. JLR company has big plans with its entire fleet. By 2022 all models will be new. We already saw Range Rover Evoque, and the 2020 Land Rover Discovery is the next to enter the new generation. After that, we will see all other well-known Land Rover and Range Rover SUV. The new platform is moving to the Premium Transverse Architecture. Mid-size SUV will get more space inside the cockpit. Also, the PTA will boost handling and maneuvering.
The 4.6 liter engines fitted to the 2003-4 models are prone to failure. They are plagued with oil pump failures (leading to engine seizure) and cracks at the head studs in the block (leading to overheat failures.) Disco II engines are prone to failure of the rocker shafts, resulting in engine raps. The steel cup comes loose inside the aluminum rocker. Read more about the engine problems on my blog. Land Rover reduced the frame thickness in the Discovery II trucks, and they are now prone to early rust failure in snow belt areas. They are also prone to develop cracks by the right side catalyst. Radiators are prone to develop leaks, more so than previous Land Rover models. The idler pulleys on the belt drive become noisy and in extreme cases come apart. The ACE system, while substantially improving high speed handling, offers the possibility of service nightmares on high mile units.
