Mazda 3 2.2D 2019 DPF Blocked After Timing Chain Replacement

Firstly, thanks to all on PH for the advice given to everyone. I've picked up a lot from here over the last few years! I think I've been stitched up by a dealer. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 Sport, 2.2D. 162k miles, owned from 2013/75k. Generally pretty reliable. There are well documented issues with the timing chain in Mazda 2.2D engines of this era needing replacement if they become slack. Mazda introduced a software update a few years ago which causes the DPF light to flash if the tension in the timing chain goes beyond a particular value (10.5 degrees). A couple of months ago my DPF light started flashing (which can mean a few things, including that it's reached it's service interval). At the time I wasn't aware of the timing chain issue, however the oil was fairly new and the service interval had been reset when the oil was replaced.

The Halogen projector headlamps are new, as are the rear tail lamps which now have a clear inner lens and a black lens surround for greater definition. The tailgate handle is now finished in body color and the full width signature strip is finished in Noble. Additional body colored parts include door handles, headlamp washer jets, door mirrors and lower side door panels and rear bumper are fully painted as standard. Door mirrors now have a 10 percent larger glass area and to really set off the fresh styling there are also new 18聰 (standard) and 19聰 (optional) alloy wheels. The choice of colors has changed for 2011 too, with the addition of Kosrae Green, Baltic Blue and Fuji White. In the cabin, there are two new contemporary seat styles offering a greater range of choice. Napoli leather and New Windsor leather for the LUX Package. These two new styles differentiate between trim levels.

A number of those people had lube related problems - lifter noise, and worse. That tells me the long intervals work for some people, but not everyone. What鈥檚 the sensible solution? Change your oil a bit more often, with the very best available materials, and whichever kind of driver you are, you should be safe. With newer BMW, Mercedes, and Land Rover vehicles where a 15k oil change interval is recommended, I suggest reducing that interval to 10,000 miles or annually, whichever comes first. If you do that on a 2011 Land Rover, Mercedes, or BMW, you will have an engine that鈥檚 just like new at 100k miles. It is imperative to use the proper grade of synthetic oil with the correct extended drain additive packages. Always make sure the oil you use meets the specific requirements of your car. For example, some Mercedes, use an oil that meets MB specification 229.51 while others use a different spec.
