There Were Over 100 Japanese 4x4s
Three first gen Integra coupes, with much less mileage than the one I drove to Radwood. I note that a Celica in this condition is rarer than the NSX next to it. The second annex consists of Figaros, Seras, Beats, and mini fire trucks. There are 125 Figaros in the collection. Mr. Duncan has contacts in Japan who pick out the best examples at auctions. There are not many left in Japan. Most are in Britain, the Netherlands, and this second annex. There were a few Cappuccinos too. Look how small it is compared to the Honda City cabrio. When I was visiting, a gentleman from North Carolina bought a Beat. He bought the second best example in the inventory. The best example was recently purchased by a Honda engineer in Ohio. Seras, with butterfly doors. I had never heard of a Daihatsu Leeza before. I knew the red car was an Acura/Honda Vigor, but I did not recognize the other sedan. Turns out it's just a first generation Acura/Honda Legend with a Japanese face. There were over 100 Japanese 4x4s, from Pajeros to Land Cruisers to Delicas to Samurais. Two red Previas. One.
He didn't lay these commandments upon us because he is the boss and we have to listen to him. He gave them to us because he loves us. He knew the hardships and suffering that would come from doing evil and he wanted to protect us from all of that. God knows that if we steal, for example, it will hurt not only those we steal from, but it will hurt us as well. First, there are the ramifications that come if one is caught stealing. You may be tasked with making restitution to those you stole from. You may be assigned many hours of arduous community service. You may even be incarcerated. Next, there comes societal scorn and a ruined reputation as you are branded a thief. You lose friends and credibility. You have a record and authorities keep close tabs on you and your activities. It is harder to find good work. Generally, everything in life becomes a little bit more difficult for you.
We are working an authentic successor of the predecessor. I have to say it was one of my saddest moments in my career at Jaguar Land Rover, when we stopped the production line of this vehicle, because I just love it. But we will make a successor to this vehicle and you can be sure it will be even more capable. Speth indicated that the Defender will share components with other Land Rovers in a bid to cut costs - and that this will extend to being built alongside other cars. 鈥淲e鈥檙e already doing this now,鈥?he said. 鈥淲e used the modular architecture and elements of our chassis for weight reduction to make the new Discovery a better-handling car. It's also likely that a hardcore off-road Defender SVX will join the range at some stage and we could even see a luxurious SVA version in line with the Range Rover SVAutobiography. 鈥淭he beauty of SVO is that it allows you to play. It lets you take vehicles and heighten their essence,鈥?McGovern told Auto Express last year. The first new Defender isn鈥檛 expected to arrive until 2018, and it will spawn a family of at least three individual models. Whatever happens, the new Defender will continue Land Rover鈥檚 recent move upmarket. 鈥淚n its core form it can be something that can be quite elemental up to something incredibly luxurious,鈥?said McGovern. Yet the car will remain a true off-roader. While exact details are still secret, the new Defender is likely to have an aluminium body built on an aluminium chassis. This would give go-anywhere strength with less weight than from a traditional 4x4 steel chassis.
Festival. Well, my dad did have an Alpine very much like this one. After two years spent tracking down rare parts, the restoration of this utterly rotten car was completed the night before and rewarded with first prize. Early Japanese cars don't seem to survive well and I'd never seen one of these before. It was the very first Mitsubishi imported to the UK by the Colt Car Company and has been retained for posterity in its manufacturer's heritage collection. The very definition of unexceptional. A bland, boxy and old-fashioned estate that's nothing special, yet now incredibly rare with only half a dozen left on the road. I'd completely forgotten these ever existed. We may have got to number one but I couldn't restrict it to just ten as there were so many great cars in the concours, so here's a few more Honorable Mentions that very nearly made the final cut. A well-deserved second prize winner, Bluebirds are the epitome of unexceptional. Competent but boring family cars that used to be everywhere but have quietly disappeared from Britain's roads. So many must have been worked to death as taxis. Sporty Sierras are bona fide classics but this one is the total antithesis of the Cosworth and XR4. It isn't quite a grey-grilled base model but isn't much further up the ladder, and I love the '4-speed' badge on the back like that's something to be proud of. It's easy to forget just how radical these early Sierras were too. Let me know in the comments.
Ride Comfort - As mentioned earlier, this particular Range Rover Velar came equipped with adjustable air suspension which even in it鈥檚 stiffest setting, still offered a plush ride. It doesn鈥檛 glide over bumps but it鈥檚 not a jarring ride either. The seats provide good support and (on this model at least) come with a massaging feature. Front occupants have plenty of space as do occupants in the rear seats. Noise, Vibration, & Harshness - The Velar is a relatively quiet vehicle. Going 100 km/h on the highway feels like you鈥檙e going more slowly than you actually are. Only during more spirited drives does the engine noise intrude into the cabin. Squeaks and rattles of Land Rovers of the past are non-existent in the Velar. Everything feels well put together. Interior Design - This is where the Range Rover Velar shines above it鈥檚 competition. The design is contemporary and elegant. Not only does it have premium materials but the abundance of screens makes it feel like Range Rover is in tune with the touchscreen craze that we鈥檙e in right now. Gadgets - Like many other manufacturers these days, the Velar is packed with the latest tech.
