Just Great Cars: 2019 Land Rover LR2 Review

Just Great Cars: 2019 Land Rover LR2 Review

There鈥檚 something that a little boy and the Land Rover LR2 have in common: They never met a puddle or hill that they didn鈥檛 think had their name written all over or in it. And in most cases they can wear mud pretty well, even if it doesn't seem like their parents want them running through the mucky stuff. But turning to the LR2, does it duplicate the efforts of its sexier, fashionista brother, the Range Rover Evoque, now that both offer the same more powerful and more fuel efficient four-cylinder turbo engine? A five-passenger crossover with a hint of ruggedness, the 2013 Land Rover LR2 is helping to make the Ford-developed 2.0-liter turbocharged engine one of the most widely used contemporary powerplants in existence. Seen in a variety of applications ranging from the Ford Fusion to the Jaguar XF, the 2.0 manages to have just the right amount of testosterone to act like the rest of the folks at Land Rover鈥檚 big boy table.

Roger Crathorne, one of the best known and most highly respected Land Rover employees for more than five decades, is retiring from the company. From Royalty, VIP customers and senior military figures to journalists from all over the world, global explorers and countless generations of company management, Roger is known simply as 鈥楳r Land Rover鈥? As an instructor, he has passed on his vast knowledge and experience of off-road driving in the world鈥檚 most inhospitable regions to thousands of people; all with passion and patience. Dr. Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, commented: 鈥淩oger has been instrumental in the development and promotion of Land Rover鈥檚 breadth of capabilities for over half a century. His enthusiasm, vehicle knowledge and his deep understanding of the philosophy of the company, right back to the beginning, is unsurpassed. Roger has been an outstanding advocate for Land Rover, and his contribution has undoubtedly played a part in the global success we are enjoying today. Roger joined Land Rover in 1963 as an apprentice, but the story of his association with the company starts even earlier than that.

The acceleration is better and the gas mileage is rated higher than the LR2. The Volvo engine that is used in the Land Rover is on the noisy side. The Volvo six-speed transmission, for the most part, has been great. There are times that is has trouble searching for the right gear when gradually accelerating up a grade. I am surprised by the handling of this SUV. It is much better than I anticipated. When comparing the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee I use to own, and the LR2 is more willing to eat up some curves. As for gas mileage, I drive 20 miles each way to work. About five of these miles are on the Interstate. I average 20.5 mpg. Not too bad, and allot better than the Jeep I use to own. Off-road: I鈥檓 sure the majority of buyers won鈥檛 bring their vehicle off-road. I鈥檓 not one of these people. I鈥檓 not into rock climbing, nor will this be the vehicle for this activity. I do belong to a hunt club that leases 2400 acres in the hill country of Texas.

Jaguar Land Rover has been struggling in recent months, making redundancies across its business and cutting back production at its plants. It is understood a 'post-sale integration document', which outlines the benefits of the two companies joining forces, is already in circulation and the firms are exploring the detail of cost savings after a tie-up. Indian company Tata Motors denied the report, which cited sources referring to an internal 'post-sale integration document', describing cost savings. As a matter of policy, we do not comment on media speculation, but we can confirm there is no truth to these rumours,' said a spokesperson for the Indian carmaker, which owns 100 percent of JLR. Jaguar Land Rover has been struggling in recent months, making redundancies across its business and cutting back production at its plants. PSA shares jumped after publication of the documents, before falling back after Tata released its statement, and were down 2.85 percent as of 2.31pm GMT. On principle we are open to opportunities that could create long-term value for PSA Group and its shareholders,' said Alain Le Gouguec, a spokesman for the Paris-based manufacturer.
