Wolf (Pulse Ambulance)): November 2019
Ideal when you are in the temperate of Africa or a warm climate such as found around the Mediterranean and in mainland Europe, but not so ideal if you are in wet, non-temperate Scotland. Toilet facilities are limited (non-existent)! Ideally we wanted a larger vehicle, one that would not only be capable of going everywhere we wanted to go, but one that would address the few short comings of our Landcruiser. 路 Easy to maintain with spare parts available throughout the world. 路 A vehicle that we could adapt to suit our own requirements. For the last 30 years or so I have driven Land Rovers and other 4 x 4 vehicles on the site roads associated with numerous large construction projects and on unmade roads in a number of third world countries. At one point I was a partner in a Land Rover hire business which ran a small fleet of Land Rover Defenders 90, 110, 30 and Discoveries, so I am well aware of their ruggedness and capabilities.
And get a trailer to go with. A trailer that could take a full cord and carry three little piggies to market would be nice and save me some grief. No never, no more. But I wish I had one now. And a new chainsaw. My two old ones, never the most powerful of saws in the first place, are getting tired and one quit on me last week, possibly for good. The two I have are identical, which was deliberate, so the dead one will become spares for the other, but they're only lightweight saws and so not very quick at making wood. My favorite farm blogs are also wittering on about firewood. Colour it Green Diary in SW England wants a woodlot. She could borrow ours if she were closer. We'd share, or trade for knitted goods. Throwback at Trapper Creek in Oregon has one, but coniferous. I liked the picture of the deep Oregon woods and the easily split softwood logs because it reminded me of Montana. Although we have conifers in Maine and in fact our woodlot has huge spruces and hemlocks, we think of them as sawlogs, not firewood. We use oak, maple, cherry, beech and ash for firewood. Ash predominates in our own woodlot, one of the best New England firewood trees because it can be burned while still wet. Our woodlot grows a thirty-foot tall, six inch DBH ash in about seven years. Takes a few of those to make a cord, but it makes for perfect stove wood. Aberdeenshire's Stonehead and Paul on Raasay both have new snow. Beautiful, but cold. And makes it hard to shift firewood, especially with a tiny Nipponese pick up. I'd better get moving this weekend, and get those extra two cords in.
There's also a 2.0-liter, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder middle child that's good for 173 horses. The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is one of the largest compact sedans on this top 10 list, especially if you're going by interior room. The 2015 Buick Verano brings a touch of luxury to the compact sedan segment, but it does so at a price point that's still reasonably affordable. Also remarkable is the Buick Verano's quiet interior, which has been given extra insulation to keep out road noise and the bustle of traffic. The 2015 Toyota Corolla has been completely redesigned for the current model year, and it leaves behind its previously dowdy styling in order to infuse some new excitement into its sheet metal. The Toyota Corolla happens to be nicer inside as well, and introduces a few more high tech options than were previously available with the car. Under the hood things are fairly status quo for the Corolla, which features a 1.8-liter, 132 horsepower four-cylinder engine as its base motor.
Based on initial work by Ford Racing and the team at Shelby, often at Shelby's own facility on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Ford SVT chassis engineers will apply fine tuning techniques to prepare it for the streets. Jamal Hameedi, chief nameplate engineer, Ford SVT. Chassis engineers worked closely with the engine department in a holistic approach to the development of the KR, tuning the suspension to best optimize the engine enhancements. Gary Patterson, vice president of operations for Shelby Automobiles. The GT500KR will feature unique spring rates, dampers, stabilizer bars, and strut tower brace, all designed specifically for the KR, to deliver the precision handling package. Unwilling to wait for the impending pony car war to heat up, Ford is extending Mustang's leadership position by feeding the enthusiast demand for more models, features, performance parts, and special editions. Ford has committed to at least one new Mustang 'feature' vehicle per year. For 2007, it is the Shelby GT, and for 2008, there will be at least two including the Shelby GT500KR and the previously announced Mustang Bullitt. 46,500 for a 500-hp Shelby GT500 convertible.
The new Defender launches with two available engines. The Discovery also boasts two engine options, but they don't overlap with the new engines offered in the Defender. On either vehicle, the lone transmission option is an 8-speed automatic. 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder; 296 horsepower; 295 lb-ft. 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six; 395 hp; 406 lb-ft. A diesel engine and a hybrid will join the lineup eventually, but U.S. Fuel economy figures for the new Defender haven't been released by the Environmental Protection Agency. 3.0-liter supercharged V6; 340 hp; 332 lb-ft. 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline six; 254 hp; 443 lb-ft. Many of Land Rover's features come standard across its different model lines, so there's a lot of overlap between what you can get in a Defender and what's offered in the Discovery. Each has a full array of active safety technology -- including automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition -- befitting a modern luxury vehicle.
